The year was 1845, in Bethel Community, Freestone County Texas, the place where Zillie Anne, a Madagascar slave, gave birth to a son, George Solomon. She was also the mother of an older son, also a slave, James Wesley Henderson, who was born in January of 1840. His father was Hugh Henderson, an Irish slave holder. Information is yet to be uncovered regarding the father of George, but we’re almost certain, he too was the seed of another slave holder.
On April 21, 1867, Wade Shumate allowed his daughter Lucinda to marry George Solomon, and to that union seven children were born. While the clock ticked forward, so did the generations of Solomon descendants. As we grow, connect and make progressive strides in keeping our legacy alive, let us not forget, we must continue to tell the story regarding the days of old.
